JR8898 asked:

I know that a use of baking soda is to clean carpets, and that you can leave it there and then vacuum it up. I realized that I did the first step, but sort of just scrubbed the white carpet with a dry towel and never vacuumed. Can leaving the baking soda on the carpet cause damage? Because I might not return to the house that this occurred in for a while. Is it urgent that I get there anytime soon? As in, can the baking soda leave a new stain?

It will be OK.
Lots of traffic on spot with baking soda in carpet can add some wear on carpet (not visible unless doing this a lot).
Damp or liquid on baking soda will create a paste. Then you would have to hand scrub with water & rag.
