I bought a cheapo used carpet shampooer, an old Rug Doctor rental unit. What can I use as a cleaning solution? The Rug Doctor website, of course reccomends their products, I’m sure there are other products available or maybe I can brew up something in the kitchen myself. What have other people used?

I have heard of some people using hot water with white vinegar and baking soda. I haven’t tried it but it cant hurt.

Tide will work, cleans fabric
Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. They have many different solutions depending on which type of stain you pull from the drop down menu. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck!
